Restaurants You Should Try
Pleasant House Pub located in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood; 2119 South Halsted Street. Still trying to wrap my head around how they got everything right! Upon entering, we received a nice greeting and were told to seat ourselves. Someone came and took our order immediately. We ordered ginger ales; had no idea we were getting the real thing. Fresh ginger flavor with lots of bubbles. We decided on the steak and ale pie with a side of mashed potatoes. It came with gravy on top and pea shoots. At first bite, I closed my eyes and imagined being in Ireland. A very thick but flaky crust filled with tender meat, fresh vegetables, the right amount of gravy and a hint of heat. The mashed potatoes paired nicely. Then there was dessert; sticky toffee pudding with authentic toasted caramel flavors. The oatmeal cookie; two thin oatmeal slices sandwiched between just the right amount of dark chocolate. Can’t wait to go back.
Little Goat Diner located in Chicago’s West Loop; 820 West Randolph Street. What a great little spot for brunch all day. Very nice diner and fast friendly service. Creative flavors that send your tastebuds into overdrive. The spiced apple pancakes are made with a sourdough batter, thin sliced apples, a good amount of spice and topped with granola. I was told the Korean BBQ chicken tacos were also a hit. But the crab dip with ritz crackers, oh my. Please walk a few steps to the back of the restaurant for their bakery; Sugar Goat. Really big cupcakes and fresh baked cookies will be calling your name. I grabbed the last two oatmeal raisin cookies, a pancake cupcake and a cheez-it cupcake. Yes, you read that right, and it was surprisingly good.
GT Prime Steakhouse located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood; 707 North Wells Street. Restaurant Week in Chicago is always a good idea. Amazing ambiance and staff. Loved our seat by the window! There are two choices for water; flat or sparkling, with lime wedges of course. Then came little pillows of heaven with whipped butter. By far the best dinner rolls I have ever had. Armani, our server took very good care of us and all of the food came with timely precision. The jumbo shrimp were a treat by themselves or add a dollop of the beer mustard or cocktail sauce. Both pack a bit of heat from the horse radish. The wedge salad was topped off with thick cut bacon and the French onion soup was both beefy and hearty. Our side of macaroni and cheese was very flavorful, the salmon was a delight and the steaks were cooked to perfection. Then came dessert, as if we had any more room in our bellies. The chocolate cake was a rich treat and the creamsicle cheesecake was light and refreshing. This restaurant also offers valet parking! Looks like someone was celebrating a birthday.
